To make aged paper, you must first wrinkle it with your hands. This stage can be missed and proceed to the next. In addition, you can shake her hands, you can scratch her nails, tearing at the edges or bend in any direction. For greater flexibility it is recommended to spray the surface with water from a spray bottle. When the mechanical damage is done, it is necessary to proceed to its aging.

The sheet can be used pure or already with a printed pattern or inscription. It is advisable to print the inscription on the printer, rather than writing by hand. The edges are also recommended to be treated with sandpaper to create a light scuff, or with candles / lighters to create traces of the fire. If you leave the edges smooth, you will not be able to fully convey the influence of time.

To do this, put the prepared sheet on a baking sheet. Its edges should not go beyond the baking sheet. The oven should be turned on 90 degrees and do the application of tea or coffee brewing on paper. To evenly distribute the pigment, use a brush or foam sponge. When the oven heats up, place a baking sheet with paper in it for 10 minutes. During this time, the paper will have time to stain and dry. If a little paint is poured on the bottom of the pan, then it is not scary. It is absorbed into the back layer of crafts.

After pouring the finished tea into a small bath, we soak a sheet of paper you need (you can wrinkle it beforehand so that the paper is better soaked with water, and also to give it an older and shabby look), we withstand a couple of minutes. Then we get it out of the water and wait until the leaf dries out. Finally, iron it with iron, leveling the surface of the sheet.

Rescue coffee

Now let's talk about how to make paper coffee. This method of aging is not much different from the previous one. The difference in the brewing itself. For a glass of water you need 5 teaspoons of natural ground coffee. Brewed coffee should be infused for 10 minutes, then strain. In this case, the sediment should not fall into your bath, in which you age the paper. Otherwise, the paper may remain stains and traces. In some cases, sediment can be used to create scuffs and brighter small specks on a sheet of paper.

The time for which a sheet of paper should be lowered into the solution is no more than five minutes, otherwise the sheet will be crushed and torn when trying to get it. In addition, we do not recommend that you put several sheets together in a bath, otherwise they will stick together in one soaked piece of paper and tear.

To dry a sheet of paper should also be on a flat surface, and he ironed after drying with an iron.

In the event that you do not have natural coffee at home, you can replace it with instant coffee.

We use milk

Now let's talk about how to age paper with milk. To do this you need milk with a high percentage of fat. It is better if it is at all home. You should also find a brush with which to apply it.

A sheet of paper mnem, then using a brush, thoroughly dye it with milk on both sides. After it is well soaked on both sides, lay it on a flat surface. Leave for a while to dry out. Then iron the sheet with the help of iron. In this case, the temperature should be high enough, and on the paper itself should appear dark brown spots.

In addition, you can also dry a sheet of paper in the microwave or with a hair dryer. The main thing in this method of aging is the effect of high temperature on the solution itself, which is impregnated with a sheet of paper.

Lemon juice

Let's say a few words about how to make paper old with lemon juice. This is another rather interesting and certainly known way. So, aging paper with lemon juice. If you were fond of detectives in your childhood, you probably know that many criminals and even detectives wrote their secret notes with the help of lemon juice. In this case, the inscription appeared only under the influence of high temperatures.

Squeeze juice from lemon. Then put it on a piece of paper with a sponge, brush or just dipping it in a container with lemon juice. Then put the sheet on a flat surface and dry with a hair dryer. As it dries and under the influence of heat, it will begin to darken.

Alternatively, this method can be used for additional decoration sheet. So, you can make inscriptions on a sheet with lemon juice, and then show them. This is a rather original way to decorate postcards and albums.

Aging paper with potassium permanganate

If you have potassium permanganate at home (that is, simply potassium permanganate), then it will be easy enough for you to age any paper. To do this, pour in a pot in which you are going to paint a sheet, a few granules of potassium permanganate, then dissolve it in cold water until completely dissolved. In this case, the solution should be saturated dark pink color. When working with the solution, be sure to wear gloves so as not to stain or burn your hands.

After this, we dip paper for five minutes into the water. When it is sufficiently saturated with water, we take it out of the container and unfold it to dry.

After drying, the paper becomes a pleasant brown shade. Now you also know how to make paper old with potassium permanganate. As you can see, this is quite an interesting and easy way. In addition, using potassium permanganate can be artificially aged and things made of cloth.

Aging paper with a candle

We now turn to thermal methods of aging paper. First of all, let's talk about how to change the age of the paper with the help of fire.

The simplest and most likely way known to many is to use fire to age the paper and give it the appearance of a survivor of a fire.

For this you need a candle. At the same time, the paper will have to be aged over the sink, in order to quickly extinguish it in case of fire and prevent fire.

Put the candle in the candlestick and then set it in the sink. After this we light a candle. We take into your hands the sheet of paper you need and begin to carefully drive them over the candles. At the same time between the paper and the fire should be a distance of at least 10 cm. Do not hold the paper in one place. So you can set it on fire.

Microwave as a means of aging paper

As you know, the paper darkens when exposed to heat. Heat can emit as a fire, and a device that works on electricity - a hair dryer, a stove, even an electric fireplace. But we will talk about the thing that for sure is in every house - a microwave.

One of the easiest ways to age paper is to temporarily place it in a microwave oven at a temperature of 200 degrees Celsius. In this case, the paper itself should be pre-moistened with water or tea solution (coffee).

In addition, you can first put the paper in the refrigerator, and then in the microwave. This way you will also be able to age the paper for several years. Now you know how to age paper in the microwave.

Use tea

What an amazing and healthy drink! It tones up, quenches thirst, fills our body with useful substances, has healing properties ... And also is able to age paper! So, what do we need to turn new leaves into yellowed sheets? We write down:

  • tea brewing - 5-10 Art. spoons (the stronger your tea leaves turn out, the brighter the aging effect will be. For a light yellowness 5 spoons are enough),
  • boiling water - 250 ml,
  • A4 sheet of white paper,
  • capacity for soaking the sheet
  • clean surface for drying.

To make the paper look as old as possible, it can be pre-crumpled and straightened, or only a few creases can be made. Next, we deal with our tea: pour tea leaves with boiling water, let it brew for 10-15 minutes under a closed lid.

After that, filter through a strainer and pour into a prepared container. It is better that it had the appearance of a small bath, and the sheet in it could fit in an unbent state. The next step is aging. We drop a sheet of paper in the brew, leave it there for just a couple of minutes.

At the end of time, gently pull out our sheet, then carefully lay out on the prepared surface. After it has dried, you can iron it on top with an iron.

In order to give our sheet the most realistic look, you can sprinkle a couple more leaves of tea leaves on it. If you want to get a paper that “survived the fire”, as a result of which dark spots appeared on it, then just burn it with a cigarette lighter or a candle. Done!

Aging with coffee

Probably, as a result of just such a method, the most realistic result is obtained, which can easily be confused with ancient scrolls or papers that have survived for more than one century. So what we need:

  • natural ground coffee - 5 h. spoons,
  • boiling water - 200 ml,
  • A4 sheet of paper,
  • soaking container
  • surface to dry.

To begin with, we will prepare the paper - we crumple it well, mneen, and then smooth it out.

There is drying - we spread the sheet on a flat surface, dry it and, if desired, iron it again.

Milk Aging

If everything is clear with coffee and tea, there is at least a shade of the same, then how can ordinary milk add a piece of paper to age? It can. Such an artificial method is less popular than the previous ones, and in vain, with its help, sheets of paper acquire a special shade of antiquity. So, what we need:

  • milk, better homemade and fatty - 150 ml,
  • a sheet of white A4 paper,
  • paint brush
  • drying surface.

To begin with, the paper needs to be prepared: to do this, we cut the sharp corners of the sheet, turning them into rounded ones, and in order that they do not look too neat, you can walk around the edges with sandpaper, the rest of the sheet, by the way, can also be touched.

Further, at will, we crumple paper. We start the process of aging: lay the paper on the surface and paint it on both sides with a brush and milk, give it a good soak.

Then again leave the sheet to dry on a flat surface. This time we can’t do without drying with an iron: heat it up to the highest temperatures and iron it until brown spots appear on the paper.

You can make old paper in a simpler way: we use bright sunny days! The prepared leaflet just needs to hang in direct sunlight for several days, most importantly, make sure that it does not fall under the rain. If you want to get realistic ancient scrolls as a result, then first cut the paper with long but rather narrow stripes.

They must be aged the same way as we described above. Then we turn them into tubes, as it is supposed to be scrolls, and bring the edges to a burning candle, letting them catch fire. When you see that they have decently burned, instantly extinguish the fire under a powerful stream of water.

All scrolls must be washed to get rid of excess ash, dried, and then send them to "warm up" in the oven. The last stage is the decoration - the words, the necessary text or monograms that would fit your subject. Such scrolls are often used for themed weddings, parties or quests.
